Full Support for IPTC Subject Reference System

GammaWare News Edition fully supports the Subject Reference Scheme recently introduced by the International Press Telecommunications Council. Developed specifically for news content, the scheme can serve as a starting point for publishers building a new taxonomy.

The Subject Reference Scheme maintains full interoperability with any publishing system, using IPTC’s NewsML standard; a numeric identifier for each category ensures universal, language-independent categorization.

Adopt an IPTC Taxonomy – But Keep the Old One

The new Subject Reference Scheme offers significant advantages for publishers, but for organizations with existing taxonomies, the transition is difficult. Very often content is already tagged according to the existing taxonomy, and adopting the IPTC scheme means categorizing and tagging it again.

GammaWare makes it much easier to adopt IPTC, because it supports multiple taxonomies: This means you can create a new taxonomy based on IPTC, and keep your existing one. GammaWare can automatically categorize and tag your content according to the IPTC structure, without removing tags relating to the old taxonomy.

Once the content has been automatically assigned IPTC tags, it can browsed and distributed according to either taxonomy - the old or the new.
